What I learned from a year of reading vampire books

Hello Book lovers, and Happy spooky season. If you’re not a big fan of all things spooky- but you enjoy fantasy and perhaps paranormal romances, then I have a treat for you today. After reading Rebekah Weatherspoon’s Better Off Red and its sequels in 2021, I was blown away by all the diverse vampires in that universe. 

This set me off into a quest to read more vampire novels. And I’ve noticed some similarities across the genre. One of the first things I connected across all novels is that vampires are sexy.

Don’t be scared and read Mexican Gothic!

Mexican Gothic is a New York Times Bestseller: It’s another Silvia Moreno classic! Despite my love for Silvia Moreno Garcia’s writing, I hesitated to read this novel despite adding it to my tbr every year since its publication.

But the open chapter convinced me to continue this story. Noemí’s father sends her to check in on her cousin after receiving a distressing letter from her. Catalina takes on an older sister role, so Noemí fights for both their lives. I have a similar relationship with my cousin, and I too would set a house on fire to save our lives.

Twice a Quinceañera is a perfect love letter to your thirties

Hello Readers! Latinx/e heritage month is upon us! And while I have many great recommendations from years past, I’ve also had the pleasure of reading some newly released romance novels with Latina authors this year. And the one I want to highlight first is Yamile Saied Méndez Twice a Quinceañera.

Twice a Quinceañera is a contemporary romance novel featuring the ultimate revenge and self-love journey. Told through dual pov of both Nadia and Marcus, this story is a great weekend read.

2022 Latinx Tbr

Every year I share novels I want to read during Latinx heritage month (also known as Hispanic Heritage Month) even though I read novels by Latine authors year-round, I often save some for this month-long celebration.


You might have noticed my previous Latinx tbr for the past two years always feature Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno Garcia, and this year is no different friends. But this year, I want to get serious and finally sit down and read this novel!

Hi lovers of libros, today I’m reviewing a book with the prettiest cover! West Side Love Story by Priscella Oliveras is inspired by Shakespeare’s famous Romeo and Juliet.

This Romeo and Juliet retelling is a super fun read. Undecided what R and J retelling to pick up? I will probably not help you narrow down your choices. However, West Side Love story has the main characters in rival Mariachi bands!
