A guide to Reylo coded romance novels!

Hello book lovers and Reylo Rats! I’ve noticed a very particular pattern in my reading this year and a pattern in books published thus far! My latest read just so happened to be Thea Guanzon’s the Hurricane Wars-out this October- which also has fanfiction origins. The trend is Reylo, also known as the chaotic pairing of Rey and Kylo Ren from the sequel Star Wars films. Given the popularity of this pairing online, it’s only natural that many authors took inspiration from their dynamic and later published original works of fiction.

The most famous of these novels is none other than Ali Hazelwood’s, The Love Hypothesis. A novel I simply adored! Although there are many novels with links to Reylo, there are also novels that give off that vibe. Which is what my list consist of! Some of these pairings give off that enemies to lovers vibe, while others feature a love interest who resembles Adam Driver.

Drama, Magic, and Love triangles: A Ruinous Fate will Sweep you off your feet

Hello Fantasy Babes! I hope you’re ready for today’s book review because today I am reviewing the fantastic A Ruinous Fate by Kaylie Smith! This novel is so good! It has drama, messy romances, princes, a plus-sized heroine, and LGBTQ+ characters!

Kaylie Smith (she/they)  is a new author hailing from Louisiana USA where she frequented haunted bookstores and grew up going to the library. They have always loved writing and have practiced their craft from a young age. A Ruinous Fate is their debut novel.

My Top Ten Reads of 2022

2022 has been quite a year. There have been moments of utter bliss as complete sadness. But I am grateful that this year has brought me. Now onto the books. At the end of each year, I love to look back at all the books I’ve read and share my favorite reads of the year.

This year I’ve read a little out of my comfort zone and dipped my toes into horror! And I’ve also decided that the friends-to-lovers trope isn’t so bad.

Please note some of the novels on this list are published by Harper Collins and their employees have been on strike since November 10. As a book reviewer I fully support the strike, but they’ve asked readers not to review any books published by HarperCollins at this time. Although I’ve reviewed some of these books before the strike, I will not be restating my thoughts now. You can read more about the union’s efforts to secure fair wages and donate to the strike fund or follow their Instagram page.

Marichis x Romeo and Juliet? West Side Love Story is a perfect combo!

Two households, alive with Mariachi music,

In fair San Antonio, we lay our scene,

From ancient bitterness break new passion…

Hi lovers of libros, today I’m reviewing a book with the prettiest cover! West Side Love Story by Priscella Oliveras is inspired by Shakespeare’s famous Romeo and Juliet.

This Romeo and Juliet retelling is a super fun read. Undecided what R and J retelling to pick up? I will probably not help you narrow down your choices. However, West Side Love story has the main characters in rival Mariachi bands!

Harry who? Read these magical novels instead!

I love reading and writing about books, but I never mention a certain fantasy wizarding series in any of my recommendations. And the truth is I tried to read them when I was young, and I hated them. Now that I am older, I don’t have any interest in reading about the boy who lived.

Maybe you’re salty about recent events revolving around this beloved series and its author. Maybe you are at war with your nostalgic feelings and your belief in human rights. And maybe you’re curious if there are any other novels that will inspire that whimsical feeling. Look no further because here are some book recs with magical boarding schools, witches, and that whimsical feel!

Disclaimer: I have not read every book on this list (I want to); the ones I have read will have their themes stated.

Lara isn’t the only Bad Ass sibling- A review for Inadequate Heir

Enemies to lovers’ hotties, remember the Bridge Kingdom novels. These books followed a trained spy, a humble king, and their arranged marriage. I LOVED these novels- but when I heard book three would follow another couple, I was weary. However, because a year has passed since I read The Bridge kingdom, I was ravenous for another glimpse of Lara and Aren. But after reading a few chapters of Inadequate Heir, I was enamored with the new IT couple, Keris and Zarrah.

Similar to the first novels in this series, Inadequate Heir is an enemies to lovers and forbidden lovers story.

To restore all our memories…In the first two novels Lara Veliant marries Aren Kertell with the intent to bring his kingdom to its knees. But Lara’s plans are disrupted when she learns that her father manipulated her into believing that Aren was starving the citizens of Maridrina, her homeland. And she also falls for him, but Lara’s realization happens too late, and her father begins a war with Ithicana. In the sequel Lara redeems herself by saving Aren, murdering her father, and liberating Ithicana. Lara also discovers that the heir to Maridrina -Keris- is her full brother, and although he aided Aren’s escape, Lara does not trust him.
