13 Books I’m diving into 2024 with!

Hello readers, whoa-it’s been a while-I’ve missed coming onto this space to blog and interact with and getting to spill my thoughts onto the page. Although I haven’t been actively posting on this blog, I have still thought about it, plotted it, dreamed about it. Life has been hard this past year. If you want to hear more from where I’ve been stick around till the end, but for now, I am back with 13 fantastic books I can’t wait to sink my teeth into this year.

1. Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross

Content Warnings: War, death of a parent, Alcoholism, blood, some sexual content

*cws taken from storygraph

Young Adult, historical fiction, romance

I’ve heard about this book everywhere! And to be honest, it’s on this list because I want to know what the hype is about this book.

Iris and Roman are rival journalists trying to survive a war amongst the gods. But when Iris’s letters to her brother are intercepted by Roman, he ends up writing to her instead. The pair form a connection that’s sure to keep them cozy among the front lines.

2. Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

CW: Death, violence, Death of parent, Misogyny

Young Adult, Fantasy, Romance

This title is not new to my tbr lists, but I am actively trying to read books from my bookshelf this year lol.

Elisabeth works guarding the grimoires of the great libraries. But when the library’s most dangerous grimoire is released- Elisabeth is blamed. She has no one to turned to but Nathaniel Thorn, an evil sorcerer with a demonic servant. And soon they’re both tangled in an ancient mystery that could unravel the world as they know it.

3. Howls Moving Castle by Diana Wynn’s Jones

CW: Death, murder, death of a parent

Middle Grade, Romance, Fantasy

I started this novel last year but haven’t pushed myself to finish it. But this is going to be the year I do so!

When a witch steals Sophie’s youth, she runs to the Wizard Howl for answers but finds herself working for him instead.

4. Half Soul by Olivia Atwater

Cw: Classism, ableism, child abuse, emotional abuse, kidnapping, war, child death, violence

Historical Fiction, Romance, Fantasy, Cozy

Another repeat, but I am aiming to read more fantasy faerie novels! And this is such a good pick!

Theodora was cursed by a faerie when she was young and left with half of a soul, making her the talk of the town. Lord Elias is handsome but odd; and he is fascinated by Thea’s condition. Soon, Thea discovers she might be able to fall in love with half a soul.

5. The Beautiful Ones by Silvia Moreno Garcia

CW: Toxic relationship, emotional abuse, bullying, sexism, violence, sexism, sexual content

Fantasy, Romance, Magical Realism

I am slowly reading my way through Silvia Moreno Garcia’s books, and the Beautiful Ones has caught my interest.

Antonina dreams of finding her place in high society, but her telekinetic powers make her the ton’s favorite gossip. But when Antonina meets Hector, a famous telekinetic, she’s head over heels. But Hector has other plans for her.

6. The Fake Mates by Lana Ferguson

CW: Sexual content, abandonment, Death of a parent, Medical content

Romance, Adult, Contemporary, Omegaverse

I loved Ferguson’s The Nanny and I’ve heard some good things about the Fake Mate. My cousin Sol said this novel has ABO elements- which I am not a fan of so we’ll see how this one goes.

Mackenzie Carter and Noah Taylor are two wolf shifters who decide to fake date out of convenience. Soon, their relationship evolves to friends with benefits, but can the pair keep their relationship strictly physical?

7. The Neighbor Favor by Kristina Forest

CW: Sexual content, Abandonment, toxic relationship, alcoholism, car accident, child abuse

Romance, Contemporary

I loved Forest’s I wanna be Where You Are, and the one chapter I’ve read so far of “The Neighbor Favor” was really good! So I cannot wait to read an adult romance by her!

Lily decides to email her favorite author-one hot summer day-never expecting him to answer or for the two to become virtual pen pals. Months later, Lily invites her cute neighbor Nick to her sister’s wedding, but Nick quickly realizes Lily’s identity. But Nick decides to keep things friendly between them, but can he keep it up?

8. The Partner Plot by Kristina Forest

CW: Sexual content, Alcohol

Romance, Contemporary

What I’ve read of “The Neighbor Favor” tells me I’ll also enjoy Forest’s upcoming release “The Partner Plot.”

Violet and Xavier are ex high school sweethearts who haven’t seen each other in years. Sparks fly when they meet years later in Vegas, but they take celebration to another level when the pair find themselves married to each other the next morning. But instead of dissolving the marriage they decide that a marriage could benefit both of their careers. Besides, a marriage to an ex is bound to stay platonic, right? Lol

9. Now That I’ve Found you by Kristina Forest

CW: Bullying, Alcohol

Romance, Young Adult, Contemporary

You caught me! I am aiming to read lots of Kristina Forest books this year!! I purchased “Now That I’ve Found you” the beginning of last year, and its gorgeous cover has haunted me ever since! I need to dive into this one immediately.

Evie Jones, a starlet down on her luck, has the perfect PR move up her sleeve, a public outing with the Hollywood royalty, Gigi, her grandmother. But when Evie needs her the most she disappears.

Evie must enlist the help of Milo, a cute musician, amd the last person to see Gigi- on a wild chase around New York City.

10. Forget me Not by Julie Soto

CW: sexual content, death of a parent, sexual harassment, medical content, cancer

Romance, Contemporary

Remember when I said I was not going to read all Reylo fictions? Well I can’t help myself if they are giving cozy vibes! Which is what happened with “A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating a Demon” and “Forget Me Not.”

Ama Torres gets her big break planning a celebrity wedding, but her patience is tested when she meets the florist. Elliot, Ama’s ex boyfriend, was ready to start their forever together, but now he’s haunted by his proposal. Ama and Elliot have a complicated history, but that will not stop the two brides from trying to get the pair to rekindle their romance.

11. Garlic and the Witch by Bree Paulsen

CW: Dysphoria, Death, Blood, Mental illness

Middle Grade, Graphic Novel

Everyone needs to read a graphic novel or maybe nine. I loved Garlic and the Vampire so much for its rich Fall setting. So, I can only assume “Garlic and The Witch” will give me similar vibes.

Garlic’s off on a new adventure, this time to find the perfect blood substitute for her friend Count. But Garlic is slowly turning human, and she’s not sure she’s ready for quite a big change.

12. Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer

CW: Violence, blood, Death, Sexual harassment, Abandonment, Torture

Romance, Fantasy, Mystery

My coworker recommended this to me as a fun read! I trust her judgement because she’s a veracious reader and is graduating from Librarian school super soon!

Evie Sage needs a new job asap, and when the local villain offers her one, how could she refuse? But there’s something brewing, and someone is aspiring to take out the villain. But Evie is on it! And she will not let anyone harm her handsome boss.

13. What the River knows by Isabel Ibanez

CW: Death of a Parent, Murder, Death, Gun Violence, Alcoholism, Violence

Historical Fiction, Romance, Young Adult

I’ve been itching to read another novel that resonated with me as much as Gods of Jade and Shadow did. And oddly enough, What the river knows is giving me similar vibes. I have no choice but to investigate this further.

Inez sails to Egypt after the death of her parents, hoping to find answers. Instead, she finds her guardian’s infuriating assistant and the pull of old-world magic. Will Inez uncover the truth of her parent’s disappearance, or will she disappear next?

It was never my intent to abondon this blog, but 2023 was not kind to me. In short, one of my family members is not in good health, and it’s taken a toll on me. I’ve done my best to take care of my mental health and distract myself, but I ended up abandoning this blog. But this new year has given me hope, and I aspire to update this blog regularly once again.

Until next time book lovers I’ll be living in libros,

Gabriela
