2023 Latine Heritage month booklist!

Feliz dia de Herencia Latina! Happy Latine/x Heritage month!

Latinx Heritage Month, also known as Hispanic heritage Month, celebrates the independence and culture of Latin American countries. Latine heritage month began in 1968 as a weeklong celebration under President Johnson. Then in 1988 President Reagan established “Hispanic Heritage” month beginning September 15 and ending October 15th. But why does this celebration begin in the middle of the month? September 15th is the day multiple latin countries such as: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua celebrate their independence!

While some prefer to call this celebration Hispanic Heritage Month and others prefer Latinx/e heritage month to encompass the indigenous communities, this month-long celebration is a great time to educate yourself on Latin history and to pick up novels by some fabulous authors.

Without further ado, here are the books I’ll be reading this month. If you would like more recommendations, check out my recs from previous years.

Thinking about Mafia Romances? Add The Thief to your list!

Hey book besties I hope your latest read was awesome, and if it wasn’t, perhaps this review will entertain you. Over the summer, I decided to dive into mafia romance. I haven’t explored this genre, but this summer was full of discoveries, and The Thief by Tara Crescent is a treasure.

Mafia Romances are known for their dark themes and unhinged love interests, but Crescent’s The Thief is not that. Although this novel does feature a dreamy Mafia boss and an Art Thief heroine, it’s more lighthearted. So, if you’re thinking of picking up a cozy Mafia romance, keep this one in mind.

A Witch’s guide to fake dating a demon is a cozy Autumnal treat!

Demons and Witches falling in love go together like chocolate and milk! Seriously this is a popular pairing in romance novels, and I enjoy it. But what sets A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating a Demon apart from the rest? The all-powerful witch in this story sucks at casting spells and excels at caring for plants. Not to mention this novel is set in a small town full of supernatural creatures. I don’t know about you book besties, but that sounds so cute.

Aquicorn Cove’s a great graphic novel for summer!

Today I am reviewing a graphic novel because not only was I in a silly goofy mood but because I was in the mood for a little palate cleanser. And the cover for Aquicorn Cove is gorgeous so I knew this novel was what I needed.

Katie O’Neill (they/them) is a self-taught illustrator and an icon with several graphic novels and comics! Katie or Kay, as they also go by online, hails from gorgeous New Zealand. You may be familiar with Kay’s beautiful Tea Dragon Society series, which I adored. But what I really love about Kay’s illustrations is how cute and imaginative they are.

The Heart Principal: Tackling Grief and Romance

Hey book lovers!

This novel has been on my TBR since its announcement. But the pandemic made me forget some of that excitement, and so many releases from then have slipped my mind that I needed to finish the last book in this beautiful series.

Like previous novels, The Heart Principle centers around a protagonist on the autism spectrum and follows their adventure into romance. But what I like about this series is that it follows a family, and they make cameos in each other’s stories.

The initial two novels in this series lean more towards romance while also tackling some serious topics. But The Heart Principal-is the opposite. It’s an enjoyable read, but it’s heavier than the initial novels.

“Not here to Be Liked,” a YA romance with a feminist theme

Hey booklovers I had some technical glitches with this review so if you’re seeing this again check out some more of my reviews. May I suggest Our Way Back to Always.

I am back with another young adult novel review. This week I am reviewing Michelle Quach’s Not Here to Be liked a contemporary Young Adult novel that was released in 2021. This book has a bit of a forbidden romance, teen drama, and a cute boba date!
